Dear heavenly Father, be with and guide the leaders of our country. Guide them to do what is right. Guide them to be merciful and compassionate, to care for the poor and the needy, and to stand up for and defend the rights and freedoms of our people. Help them to look after orphans and widows in their distress. Let them not be a terror to good works, but to the evil. Guide them to speak wisely, and to rule wisely. Guide them to not cause our rights as people to be eroded, but let them protect our rights. Let the laws they pass protect our rights, as well as our safety. Give them discernment to avoid passing laws that look good right now but would have harmful effects later.
Guide our people, Father, to elect the leaders You want in authority, leaders who will do Your will. Guide our people, Father, to speak out in defence of the poor and fatherless and widows. Guide our people, Father, to do their part to comfort the hurting. Guide our people, Father, to stand for and defend the rights and freedoms You have given us. Guide our people, Father, to do what You want us to do. Guide our hearts, that we follow what is right, that we lead what is right, that we set an example of what is right. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thank You, Father, that it is Your will that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Thank You, Father, that Your word says:
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
I Timothy 2:1-6
O LORD, You are good, and Your mercy endures for ever. Thank You that You want us to be merciful, even as You are merciful. Thank You that You give us opportunities to be merciful. Thank You for Your love. Help us to love one another fully and freely. Thank You for Your goodness and Your mercy and Your lovingkindness and Your love. Hallelujah!
